Eligibility for the Alberta Satellite Rebate Program is based on federal broadband availability data that identifies locations lacking high-speed internet and not served by an active expansion project. The province said about 10,000 Alberta households fall into that category.
Qualifying households can purchase satellite hardware and pay for installation while the program is open, then submit receipts through an online portal at alberta.ca to receive the rebate. Purchases made between Aug. 11, 2026, and March 31, 2027, from an authorized vendor are eligible. Households that do not automatically qualify may request a review through the same portal, the province said.
The rebate covers hardware, installation and applicable taxes, up to the $1,000 maximum.
The program is part of the Alberta Broadband Strategy, under which the provincial and federal governments have together committed $755 million to expand connectivity across the province. The province said satellite is currently the only practical option for some households in areas of low population density or difficult terrain.
The Rural Municipalities of Alberta welcomed the program. "The Alberta Satellite Rebate Program provides another pathway for those residents to get connected," the organization said in the release. "RMA welcomes this additional funding stream that seeks to bridge the gaps in existing government programs and connect more rural Albertans to high-speed internet."
The province said high-speed internet access supports up to $1.7 billion in annual GDP growth for Alberta through improved household and business connectivity.
The program portal will accept applications until March 31, 2027. Households can check their address at alberta.ca to confirm eligibility.
