Initial results from Alberta's provincial referendum show widespread support for remaining in Canada, Premier Danielle Smith said late Monday, with a province-wide address planned for Tuesday evening.

Smith said in a post on X shortly before midnight that Elections Alberta's early numbers pointed to Albertans choosing to stay. "Albertans have voted for a stronger Alberta in a united Canada," she said.

Smith thanked voters for participating, calling the questions "critically important referendum questions," and said she would speak to Albertans live at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the results of all referendum questions for which results are available "and where our province goes from here."

Smith did not specify how many questions were on the ballot, which questions had results available, or what margins the initial results showed. Elections Alberta has not released a full breakdown as of the time of Smith's post.
