A structure fire at a business condominium building in northwest Medicine Hat forced at least seven businesses to close Tuesday morning and shut down lanes on Box Springs Boulevard NW.

Emergency crews were called to the building at 2201 Box Springs Blvd. NW, the Medicine Hat Police Service said in a traffic advisory posted at 10:19 a.m.

Police said the businesses affected by the fire are temporarily closed. They include:

  • Horizon Veterinary Clinic
  • A-Win Insurance
  • The Bolt Guys
  • Cypress Sports Physical Therapy
  • El Super Taco
  • Benchmark Geomatics
  • Mattress Mattress

Lane closures on Box Springs Boulevard NW are also slowing traffic in the area.

“Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes until further notice,” police said, asking the public to follow the directions of emergency personnel at the scene.

Police did not say what caused the fire, how much of the building was damaged, or whether anyone was hurt. Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services had not released any details as of late Tuesday morning.

Police said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
