The Millarville Christmas Market opens Nov. 5 at the Millarville Racing and Agricultural Society grounds, about 45 minutes southwest of Calgary, running over two weekends through Nov. 15 with more than 300 vendors, food trucks, live music and visits with Santa.

According to the society, daily hours run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free for children 12 and under; adult tickets are $8 and are sold through Showpass.

The market, established in 1988, takes place across four heated indoor spaces — the Arena, Hall, Quonset and large heated tents — as well as outdoor areas. The society advises visitors to dress in layers and wear appropriate footwear, as outdoor sections may be muddy depending on conditions.

The first weekend runs Nov. 5 to 8 and the second Nov. 12 to 15. Reindeer viewing and hay rides are among the family-oriented attractions, along with face painting.

A feature called the Kids Only Shoppe operates on Saturdays and Sundays during both market weekends. Designed for children ages five to 12, the shoppe lets young shoppers pick gifts priced at $15 or less with help from volunteer elves. More than 80 per cent of the items are handcrafted, many made locally or donated by vendors from the Millarville area, and each purchase is wrapped before the child leaves. Proceeds are shared with six Foothills School Division schools to support their hot lunch programs. The shoppe is located in the Picnic Shelter at the south end of the facility, near the concession.

The society posted a reminder on Instagram encouraging shoppers to browse vendor selections for gift ideas.

The grounds are located at 306097 192 St. W in Millarville. The society recommends allowing extra travel time on peak market days and in poor weather. The usual route from Calgary is Highway 22X west, then Highway 22 south to the grounds.

Tickets and further information are available at millarvilleracetrack.com or by calling the society office at 403-931-3411, open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
