A large tanker truck was used to steal diesel from a cardlock fuel station in Mountain View County in the early morning hours of Sept. 23, and Alberta RCMP said in a news release dated Oct. 1 it is asking the public to help identify whoever is responsible.

The theft from the Westview Coop Cardlock took place between 3 and 3:30 a.m. Closed-circuit camera footage shows the truck pulling up and taking the fuel, RCMP said. The volume taken was not specified in the release.

The suspect vehicle is described as a triple-axle tanker truck with a two-tone red and white semi chassis — red hood and doors with white fenders — and a white tank.

Olds RCMP is asking anyone who was in the area at the time and may have dash-cam footage of the truck to contact them. Anyone who spots a fuel truck matching that description is also asked to contact their local police.

RCMP said the theft is part of a pattern of high-volume diesel fuel thefts and is recommending that fuel stations install anti-siphoning devices in ground-based tanks to help prevent further incidents.

Anyone with information can contact Olds RCMP or reach Alberta RCMP Media Relations at 780-509-3970.

Correction: An earlier version of this story gave the wrong date for the RCMP news release, which is dated Oct. 1.
