A pedestrian was struck by an air compressor and other cargo ejected from a pickup truck after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Dunmore Road SE and Carry Drive SE in Medicine Hat on Tuesday afternoon, the Medicine Hat Police Service said in a news release Friday.

The collision happened at approximately 5:40 p.m. when a car attempting a left turn from Dunmore Road SE onto Carry Drive SE struck a truck travelling eastbound. The truck spun and hit a traffic light pole, which stopped it from striking a nearby pedestrian.

Although the pole blocked the truck itself, an unsecured air compressor and other items in the truck's box were ejected and hit the pedestrian. The pedestrian was taken to hospital for assessment and treatment. Neither the drivers nor any other vehicle occupants were injured.

Damage to the vehicles and surrounding infrastructure is estimated at approximately $30,000.

The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information can contact S/Sgt. Jeff Klick of the MHPS Patrol Section at 403-529-8461.
