The tournament will be the 108th edition of the CHL championship. Specific dates have not yet been set. It will be the first Memorial Cup held at Vidéotron Centre and the fifth time Québec City has hosted the event, following championships there in 1971, 1991, 2003 and 2015.
Québec was chosen over the Moncton Wildcats, who were named as the other finalist in July. An independent five-member site selection committee reviewed written bids, heard presentations and conducted site visits, evaluating each bid on business operations, local atmosphere and community engagement, event logistics, and hockey operations.
"We are excited to bring the 2028 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota to Québec City," said Dan MacKenzie, President of the CHL. "The Remparts and their partners presented a compelling vision backed by a passionate hockey community and proven experience hosting major events."
Tommy Castonguay, Vice-President of Operations for the Québec Remparts, said the organization had spent several months building its bid. "During the Memorial Cup Site Selection Committee's visit last Friday, we were able to demonstrate that this would be more than a hockey tournament," Castonguay said. "It would also bring the entire community together through a variety of activities."
QMJHL Commissioner Mario Cecchini credited both bids. "I would like to congratulate the Moncton Wildcats on their excellent bid and the Remparts on being selected as the host city," Cecchini said.
The Remparts are the most recent QMJHL team to win the Memorial Cup, having captured the title in 2023 — their third championship, following wins in 1971 and 2006. That 2023 title capped four consecutive Memorial Cup championships for QMJHL clubs.
As host club, the Remparts will be one of four teams in the 2028 tournament alongside the playoff champions of the QMJHL, Ontario Hockey League and Western Hockey League.
The 2027 Memorial Cup will be hosted by the Guelph Storm in Guelph, Ont., from May 20 to 30. The most recent edition was held in Kelowna, B.C., where the Kitchener Rangers defeated the Everett Silvertips 6–2 to win the title.
The CHL, QMJHL and Remparts plan to hold a community event in Québec City in November to mark the selection. Further details will be announced once confirmed.
