According to a news release from the Tigers, Ludovic Perreault opened the scoring for Victoria on a power-play goal at 3:20 of the first period, his first of the season. Cozens answered on a cross-ice pass from Yaroslav Bryzgalov, wiring a wrist shot into the top right corner for his fourth of the year.
Medicine Hat outshot Victoria 22-9 in the second period but could not beat Royals goaltender Cole Prelusky. Wyatt Danyleyko restored Victoria's lead at 6:21 on a rebound, and Drayden Uhrina made it 3-1 at 9:11 with his second of the season.
The Royals added three more in the third, all on the power play. Caleb Matthews scored at 5:43, Filip Novak at 11:13, and Savin Virk capped the scoring at 16:02 to finish the 6-1 final.
The Tigers had entered the game ranked second in the WHL power rankings; the Royals were ranked fourth. It was Victoria's first visit to Medicine Hat in two years, according to the Royals' release.
Medicine Hat next plays on Friday, Oct. 16, when the club travels to Regina to face the Pats.
