Four semis collide on Highway 1 near Bassano, eastbound lanes closed

A four-vehicle semi-truck collision has closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 about three kilometres north of Bassano. Bassano RCMP say no serious injuries have been reported and no dangerous goods are involved.

A collision involving four semi-trucks has closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 about three kilometres north of Bassano on Thursday, with no estimate yet on when the highway will reopen.

Bassano RCMP are on scene at the crash site, near Range Road 185, SE Alberta Rural Crime Watch said in a Facebook post on Thursday. No serious injuries have been reported and no dangerous goods are involved, the post said.

"There is no time frame right now regarding how long it will take to clear the scene," the post said, adding that drivers should avoid the area.

Westbound lanes were not reported to be affected. Motorists travelling on Highway 1 between Brooks and Calgary are advised to check for updates before travelling.
