Alberta RCMP said Thursday it will run enhanced traffic enforcement across the province this Thanksgiving long weekend as part of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police's Operation Impact 2026 campaign, targeting impaired, fatigued and distracted driving.

"We are seeing a concerning trend in fatal collisions on Alberta roads," Cpl. Mike Warman of Alberta RCMP Traffic Services said. "All road users have a part to play in road safety. By making responsible choices behind the wheel and looking out for one another, we can help prevent tragedies and keep our roads safe this Thanksgiving weekend."

The campaign's focus areas include impaired driving, driving while fatigued, distracted driving and failure to wear seat belts. RCMP said anyone witnessing dangerous or impaired driving should call 911.
