The Medicine Hat Tigers, ranked fifth in the Canadian Hockey League, host the third-ranked Victoria Royals at Co-op Place on Saturday in what will be the only regular-season meeting between the two clubs this year, the Tigers said in a game preview released Saturday.

The two clubs enter the matchup among the top five in the Hockey News CHL Top-10 Week 3 rankings published Wednesday. Victoria, at 3-1-0-0, sits third after dropping from first the previous week. Medicine Hat climbed one spot to fifth on the strength of a 4-1-0-0 record through five games.

The rankings piece said the Tigers' offence "remains an absolute juggernaut, suffocating opponents with relentless transition speed and high-volume shot generation." Pittsburgh Penguins prospects Liam and Markus Ruck have been central to that attack, along with 2027 NHL Draft prospects Noah Davidson and Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll.

Markus Ruck led Medicine Hat to its most recent win, a 4-2 decision over Prince Albert on Oct. 4, scoring twice and adding an assist to earn first-star honours. Liam Ruck added two assists. Reily Pickford scored his first WHL goal in that game, Gavin Kor also found the net, and Carter Casey made 23 saves.

Defencemen Pickford and Tyson Moss each have five points through five games, the rankings report said.

Medicine Hat dropped its most recent game Friday when it fell to the Edmonton Oil Kings in a shootout at Co-op Place. Dayton Reschny scored his first goal of the season with 4:02 remaining in the third period to tie the game, according to the Tigers' game recap.

The series history between the two clubs favours Victoria. Medicine Hat went 0-1-0-0 against the Royals last season and holds a 1-2-1-0 record over the past five years. In the lone meeting last season, played Oct. 18, 2025, in Victoria, the Royals won 5-4. Markus Ruck, Bryce Pickford and Liam Ruck each recorded two points in that loss. Arvid Drott scored his first WHL goal in that game, and Reschny tied it with 4:02 left in the third before Victoria pulled ahead.

Victoria is making the game the first stop on a Central Division road trip, the Royals said in a roster update posted Thursday. The game can be heard on the Victoria Royals' Mixlr broadcast or watched on WHL YouTube.
