Bow Island Emergency Services firefighters spent Monday evening working through heavy extrication drills at the department's training compound, practising vehicle stabilization, lifting with air bags and pulling a vehicle back onto its wheels.

"Monday night's practice was spent out in our training compound working on heavy extrication training. Our firefighters worked with stabilization, lifting with air bags, and pulling a vehicle on its wheels," Bow Island Emergency Services wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

Heavy extrication training prepares firefighters to free people trapped in vehicles following collisions, a task that requires co-ordinated use of specialized tools and lifting equipment.

"Another great night of training!!" the department wrote.
