The Cubs scored all three of their goals in the opening period and then held on through a two-goal Okotoks comeback in the second. Finke's unassisted penalty-shot marker was his seventh of the season and gave Medicine Hat a 3-0 lead it would not relinquish.
Nolen Sutherland opened the scoring 1:50 in, his fourth of the year, on assists from Treyden Kleinknecht and Josiah Jackson. Jesse Klimosko added his third of the season at 7:12, with Colby Gulliver and Finke assisting, before Finke converted the penalty shot.
Okotoks cut the deficit to one in the second period. Connor Chapman scored his eighth of the season at 12:42, assisted by Seamus Garagan and Garrison Peck, and Nathan Flanagan pulled the Bisons within one at 17:46 — his 14th of the year — on assists from Garagan and Chris Woolcott. Neither team scored in the third.
Kayden Van Ham made 27 saves on 29 shots to earn the win in net for the Cubs. Carson Jerome stopped 38 of 41 shots and took the loss for Okotoks.
Medicine Hat went 0 for 5 on the power play; the Bisons were 0 for 8. The Cubs were assessed 50 penalty minutes on 13 penalties, including three misconducts. Okotoks took 24 penalty minutes on eight penalties, including one misconduct.
The win moves the Cubs to 8-2-0 and 16 points, good for first in the Gary Wournell South Division. Okotoks falls to 8-3-0 and also 16 points in second place. The two teams met last Saturday in Okotoks, where the Bisons won 4-3.
Medicine Hat is back at the Kinplex Arena on Sunday when the Airdrie Thunder visit for a 3 p.m. puck drop.
