Medicine Hat Police Service officers were conducting proactive patrols in response to a rise in local property crime when, at about 2:30 a.m. on May 13, they spotted a suspicious vehicle parked in an alley behind a closed business. Two people were seen getting out of it.
Officers pulled the vehicle over and identified the occupants as a 39-year-old man, who was driving, and a 31-year-old woman passenger. A check confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen from a Redcliff business.
Both were taken into custody without incident. Police say the arrest is a reminder of what routine, targeted patrols can turn up in areas that have seen an uptick in break-ins and theft.
