There are quiet ways to settle a grudge in Brooks, and then there's whatever happened on South Shore Drive early Sunday morning, when someone reportedly threw two incendiary devices into a residential backyard and then vanished into the night.

Brooks RCMP say they were called to the home at roughly 1:34 a.m. on Aug. 2 after reports that an unknown suspect had thrown the devices toward the backyard, according to CHAT News Today. The devices sparked a small fire on the deck, which Brooks Fire Services helped extinguish before it could spread further.

It gets messier from there. Investigators also found several windows broken on a truck parked at the property, along with damage to a basement window — enough scattered destruction that police believe this wasn't random. RCMP are calling it a targeted attack, though they haven't said publicly what, or who, might be behind the targeting.

No one was hurt, which is the one mercy in an otherwise unsettling report. The suspect fled the scene immediately, and as of this week remained unidentified.

Brooks RCMP are now asking anyone in the South Shore Drive area with video doorbell or surveillance footage from between 12:30 a.m. and 1:45 a.m. on Aug. 2 to come forward, in the hope that a neighbour's camera caught what witnesses apparently didn't.
